So I've seen most of the threads about hair algae are a bit older so I am hoping someone has had some sort of miracle epiphany on the subject. I use RO/DI and do everything I can think of right but have an outbreak in process. If anyone knows anything about different causes or really removal methods I'd be forever in your debt. Thanks!

There are plenty of videos on google about hydrogen peroxide as well. Put it in a syringe and spray it right on the hair algae and it turns pink and dies within a day. I have done it in freshwater but as i am still new to salt i have not done it in salt. But check that out and as dave said, some fish make these issues dissapear!

Thanks for the input. I actually stopped at the lfs and picked up a sea hare... it is astonishing the damages that little guy did to the algae in a short amount of time. I’d bet within the week I’ll be supplementing algae for it to eat. Highly recommend for anyone with the hair algae issue

They do a great job but will soon eat all his food. Be sure to keephim fed. You do not want him to die in the tank !!!

Did the sea hare take care of all of the hair algae? I've had excellent results with Vibrant.

Also, speaking of aiptasia eater, I'm working of propagating some aiptasias now so I can breed the aiptasia eating nudibrachs.

The sea hare was doing awesome until I came home one day to find it was cut open all down its back. I don’t know if it got stuck under a rock or what but I was pretty upset either way... really liked that guy

Yeah, it worked great. I don't currently use it though. I used it twice to get rid of hair algae as well as turf algae. The turf algae is very difficult to get rid of so I had to use the vibrant twice a week for like 2-3 months to get rid of it. After 4-6 weeks of using it I noticed my xenia was getting smaller and smaller until it too was gone. All of my other corals were fine; I figure it was a small price to pay to get rid of the massive turf and hair algae problem I was having.

Well I’m glad to hear positive feedback. I have a bottle arriving tomorrow and of course after digging deeper I saw a whole lot of negative reviews. While they were all old posts it was disheartening... did you have any snail die off? I don’t want to fall into the “miracle fix” hype but am probably way too optimistic at the moment

I did have some small snails die off but many were unaffected. From what I understand it works by competing with other things that need nitrate/phosphate in a manner basically similar to carbon dosing. I was using it at a high dose; twice per week. The algae took a few weeks to respond but eventually died off. The snails and xenia didn't die off until I had used it at this high dose for a few months. I also had some reduction in coral coloration. I believe this was due to a lack of nitrate/phosphate. I am now dosing nitrate (have been for a couple weeks) and the color seems to be coming back - I'm also not dosing the Vibrant anymore.

Ok so it’s still early in the process but I began dosing Saturday and Sunday morning almost all the GHA turned very light and was snuffing off and with some water movement and brushing almost all of it is completely gone by Monday. Still obviously have a lot of clean up and some spots under rocks to hit but I am thoroughly amazed. I have a couple zoas that closed up as well as my GSP but like I said still early. I’ll see about pictures
